Among many dental professionals, implants are considered the best restorative treatment for replacing lost teeth. As the process is lengthy and requires oral surgery, you may have doubts about whether it’s for you or, at best, have unanswered questions about getting implants for your entire mouth. At Garazi Periodontics & Dental Implants in Miami, Florida, we want you to be fully informed about implant treatment so you’ll know what to expect. To this end, Drs. Isaac and David Garazi answer your questions about full-mouth dental implants here.
Full-mouth implant treatment replaces an entire arch of upper or lower teeth or all your teeth after they have gone missing. Dr. Garazi may use four or six implants per arch to support your new teeth. These implants are strategically placed in your jaw through oral surgery and left to fuse with your bone tissue. Once they heal, we’ll use the implants as a foundation for implant dentures, i.e., your replacement teeth.
In general, implant candidates are those with good oral and general health and sufficient jawbone density to support implants. Your oral care and lifestyle habits may also factor into the equation. Dr. Garazi will schedule a consultation to review these aspects and see if implants are a good fit for you.
That depends on the number of teeth you’re replacing and your body’s ability to heal. The osseointegration process alone can take three to six months or longer. This process is critical to the success of your treatment and can’t be rushed! Implant surgery can often be completed in one or two dental visits, after which there’s a brief recovery period for your gums to heal. Dr. Garazi can put temporary teeth in place after surgery until your implants fully heal.ย ย
One of the beauties of implants is their easy maintenance and care. Your new teeth will look, feel, and function like real teeth, and you’ll care for them in the same way, by brushing twice daily, flossing daily (a water flosser is crucial for most cases for proper maintenance), and seeing Dr. Garazi every three months for checkups and cleanings.
Implants function like tooth roots to keep your new teeth securely in place when you bite and chew. Unlike traditional dentures, you’ll never experience the embarrassment of having your teeth slip or come loose. With implants, you have full chewing power to eat all the foods you love! Your new teeth will exude an attractive, natural appearance, giving you a pleasing, confident smile. With proper care, implants can last a lifetime, eliminating the need for future surgery.ย ย
