Dental Wisdom Tooth Extraction in Miami FL Area

Do you need wisdom teeth extractions in Miami, Florida? Welcome to Garazi Periodontics & Dental Implants for safe and painless dental extractions. Drs. David and Isaac Garazi combine years of experience with the latest technologies to perform even the most complicated dental extractions. Whether your wisdom tooth is partially or fully erupted, rest assured you are in capable hands.

What are wisdom teeth?

Wisdom teeth (third molars) are the last teeth to erupt, usually between ages 17 and 21 ( the so-called “age of wisdom”). Anthropologists believe wisdom teeth were necessary for our ancestors to eat raw meat, tough roots, etc. Over the years, the human diet has been more refined to the point we don’t need as much chewing power.
With softer, easy-to-chew foods, wisdom teeth are no longer necessary, and the jawbone anatomy has evolved and become shorter. Today, your jawbone can’t comfortably accommodate 32 teeth. So, when wisdom teeth come in after all other teeth have erupted, there is hardly any space for healthy eruption.

Do wisdom teeth need removal?

If wisdom teeth grow healthy and straight, they don’t need removal. However, wisdom teeth rarely grow without causing problems. Due to insufficient space, most wisdom teeth grow sideways or become partially or wholly impacted in the jawbone.
Wisdom teeth can cause several issues, including:

  • Increased risk of infections
  • Tooth pain and gum swelling
  • Overcrowding
  • Nerve damage
  • Cysts and tumors in the jaw
  • Tooth decay from trapped bacteria or food

Early evaluation is the best way to manage problems associated with wisdom teeth. Removal not only resolves current problems but also prevents future complications.

How are wisdom teeth removed?

The location or severity of the damage determines whether your wisdom tooth needs to be extracted. Whatever the case, wisdom teeth are removed safely and painlessly in our office. Our doctors use powerful anesthetics and sedation dentistry to optimize your comfort.
Our doctors have a wealth of experience in removing wisdom teeth, from simple cases to the most complicated ones. If the wisdom tooth is accessible in the mouth, the dentist wiggles the tooth in several motions to detach it from the periodontal ligaments before pulling it out in one piece.
For impacted teeth, a surgical extraction will be necessary. The doctor will make a small incision on the gums and possibly remove some of the underlying bone to access the tooth. The tooth is then broken into pieces for easier removal. Finally, the dentist will clean the area and suture the wound to kick-start healing.

What happens after wisdom tooth removal?

After wisdom tooth extraction, proper care is essential to maximize healing, manage pain, and prevent complications like dry socket or infection. Some bleeding is expected within 24 hours, but biting on gauze helps control it. Mild to moderate swelling is common and peaks within 48 hours. Apply ice packs (20 minutes on, 20 minutes off) to reduce swelling. We’ll also prescribe over-the-counter pain medications for a painless recovery.
Our post-op instructions also guide nutrition and oral hygiene to ensure you get back on your feet quickly. Most people recover within 1-2 weeks, but complete healing of the extraction site may take 1-3 months.

Our Patients Tell The Story Best

Corine success story after dental implants
Video Transcript

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Garrazzi’s for a long period of time, and during this time I’ve had a lot of dental surgeries done, I’ve had quite a few extractions done, I’ve had gum grabs done, and I’ve had four separate implants done.

So Corinne has lost several teeth, some teeth were lost due to root canal treatment that failed, others were lost because the tooth fractured, and so in each case we remove the tooth, sometimes we immediately place the implant, in her case at other times we’ve had to remove the tooth, put bone in the site, wait for the bone to heal, and then eventually place the implant. So depending on which site, we were forced to do different types of treatment.

All of the implants Dr. Garrazzi has done for me have been very successful. Even though I’m still in the process of coming in to check this fourth implant, I feel this one is just as successful as the other three. The technology that they have in this office is extremely impressive.
Everything is so up to date, and it’s like kind of going into the twilight zone sometimes, you know, when I just look at everything, and the knowledge that they have is very impressive to me as well. The chair side manner of Dr. Garazi is extremely, extremely amazing. I believe that’s one of the things that keeps me coming back.
I’m very comfortable with him, and the staff has been very helpful, very pleasant, and explained everything that was going on, and it just made me feel very comfortable.

Corinne not only is a patient, but she’s been a friend of our family for many, many years, so it’s a great feeling to be able to help your friends, your family, and all your patients to recover from whatever problem they have and return them to health.

I can now actually open my mouth wider and just feel more confident. I don’t think it would have been possible without the work that was performed by Dr. Garazi.

“All of the treatments Dr Garazi has done for me have all been successful.”

Video Transcript

The issues I was having basically started with my general dentist identifying with x-rays that he felt that I needed four root canals. And so after he took the x-rays, he determined that we shouldn’t do the root canals. He felt that what should be done is that I should have the teeth removed and a lower bridge.

Larry is a friend who we’ve known for many, many years. And so he let his mouth go downhill for some time. And when he came to us, his mouth really was at the point where almost every tooth needs to be replaced.
So Larry’s most recent treatment was to remove his lower teeth, place implants, and immediately place a temporary bridge on those implants. So that bridge is fixed in place. It’s not removable.
And from the day that the implants were placed, the very next day he was eating, he was smiling, he was talking. He had very little post-operative discomfort and he’s been an ideal patient because of that.

I think it was absolutely critical and important as the patient that he took the time and he really spent the time to thoroughly explain to me the problems that I had and what he had to do to rectify it or correct it and replace those teeth with what I have now.

So the trust that our patients and Larry as a close friend put in us is the most valuable experience that we have. It’s what makes us love what we do. That trust is just immeasurable.

First time I saw my teeth was after he installed them here in the office. I mean, and then with a mirror, he showed it to me. It was like a shock.
This is the place to come. They’ll take care of you. You’re so pleasant the way they speak to you.
And that’s how they’ve always been since I’ve known them. But their abilities are just tremendous. I’ve recommended in the past, but now I really know that this is the place to come.
I still cannot believe what it looks like.

Dr. Isaac Garazi and Dr David Garazi with Rafael after Implant and Sinus
Video Transcript
